Sparking both the body and the mind

Targeting the core, it is a form of vigorous exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. Performed on a mat or with an apparatus, the exercises involve precise movements emphasizing flow, focus and proper breathing techniques. The energy of an exercise connects all body parts through continuous, smooth, and fluid movement as you transition from one exercise to another increasing both strength and stamina.

Incorporating the fundamentals of mind and body, you will build both physical and mental endurance.

The balance present between strength and flexibility results in stronger and leaner muscles. A Pilates lesson targets the whole body and lasts around 50 minutes with students improving posture, flexibility, and strength to move better throughout your day.

Where it all began

As a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named, the ubiquitous influence of Pilates is widely reflected across the fitness community

and around the world.

Born out of the idea that exercise could alleviate illness, Joe Pilates developed his methodology called “Contrology” emphasizing a series of rehabilitative exercises, designed to create total balance of the body and mind. Revelatory in the decades before recreational exercise was a part of everyone’s routine, regular Pilates sessions can help muscle conditioning, strength and flexibility, laying the foundation for a global fitness phenomenon.

With an emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance, the Pilates' system allows for different exercises ranging in intensity as the body adapts itself to the stimulus. The art and science of controlled movements is now widely practised across the globe with a mix of those who prescribe to a more contemporary and modern method as well as those who remain true to the Joseph Pilates way of doing things, rooted in the spirit of a truly authentic Pilates experience.

“Contrology is not a system of haphazard exercises designed to produce only bulging muscles.”

Core Principles of Pilates

CENTERING

Consciously bring physical focus to the core of the body also known as the torso “powerhouse” from which all energy for exercise is derived

PRECISION

poes-1.png

Become more aware and present so as to execute each exercise with deliberate movement which is more important than completing more repetitions with sloppier form

CONCENTRATION

pose3.png

By promoting the mind-body connection, you gain optimal physical value from each movement through total commitment to the exercise as well as enhancing your body awareness

BREATHING

Learning to breathe correctly is the most integral part of exercise, as deep and controlled breathing activates blood circulation and invigorates your muscles

CONTROL

Based on mindfulness, each motion is deliberate, proper, safe and in complete control of the muscle leaving no part of the body unattended

FLOW

The energy of an exercise connects all body parts through continuous, smooth, and fluid movement as you transition from one pose to another increasing both strength and stamina
